How Does the SDA Clear Word Bible Compare to God's Word?

Leviticus 26:1-46 (King James Version)

1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

2 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.

3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;

4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

6 And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

7 And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

8 And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

9 For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

10 And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

11 And I set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.

12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

13 I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

14 But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

17 And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

20 And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

21 And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.

23 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

24 Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

25 And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

26 And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

27 And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;

28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

29 And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

31 And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.

32 And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.

33 And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

34 Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies' land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.

35 As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

36 And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.

37 And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

38 And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

39 And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

43 The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.

45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

46 These are the statutes and judgments and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

Leviticus 26:1-46 (New International Version)

1 " 'Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the LORD your God.

2 " 'Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD.

3 " 'If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands,

4 I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit.

5 Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.

6 " 'I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove savage beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.

7 You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you.

8 Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.

9 " 'I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.

10 You will still be eating last year's harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new.

11 I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you.

12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.

13 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.

14 " 'But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands,

15 and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant,

16 then I will do this to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and drain away your life. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.

17 I will set my face against you so that you will be defeated by your enemies; those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even when no one is pursuing you.

18 " 'If after all this you will not listen to me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over.

19 I will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze.

20 Your strength will be spent in vain, because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit.

21 " 'If you remain hostile toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve.

22 I will send wild animals against you, and they will rob you of your children, destroy your cattle and make you so few in number that your roads will be deserted.

23 " 'If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction but continue to be hostile toward me,

24 I myself will be hostile toward you and will afflict you for your sins seven times over.

25 And I will bring the sword upon you to avenge the breaking of the covenant. When you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be given into enemy hands.

26 When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will be able to bake your bread in one oven, and they will dole out the bread by weight. You will eat, but you will not be satisfied.

27 " 'If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me,

28 then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over.

29 You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.

30 I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you.

31 I will turn your cities into ruins and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will take no delight in the pleasing aroma of your offerings.

32 I will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who live there will be appalled.

33 I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out my sword and pursue you. Your land will be laid waste, and your cities will lie in ruins.

34 Then the land will enjoy its sabbath years all the time that it lies desolate and you are in the country of your enemies; then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths.

35 All the time that it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not have during the sabbaths you lived in it.

36 " 'As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them.

37 They will stumble over one another as though fleeing from the sword, even though no one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to stand before your enemies.

38 You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you.

39 Those of you who are left will waste away in the lands of their enemies because of their sins; also because of their fathers' sins they will waste away.

40 " 'But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers—their treachery against me and their hostility toward me,

41 which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin,

42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.

43 For the land will be deserted by them and will enjoy its sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. They will pay for their sins because they rejected my laws and abhorred my decrees.

44 Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them or abhor them so as to destroy them completely, breaking my covenant with them. I am the LORD their God.

45 But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors whom I brought out of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God. I am the LORD.' "

46 These are the decrees, the laws and the regulations that the LORD established on Mount Sinai between himself and the Israelites through Moses.

Leviticus 26:1-46 (SDA Clear Word Bible)

1 The Lord continued to speak to Moses, "Do not make idols or set up statues or sacred stone pillars and worship them. I am the Lord your God.

2 Keep my Sabbath and show respect for my Sanctuary. I am the Lord.

3 If you obey me and follow my instructions,

4 I will send you rain when you need it so that your land will produce crops and your trees will bear an abundance of fruit.

5 Your crops will be so plentiful that you will still be threshing when the grape season comes, and you'll still be picking grapes when it's time to sow your fields again. You will have plent to eat.

6 I will give you peace in the land and you will be able to lie down and sleep at night without having to be afraid. I will remove any dangerous animals throughout your land and wars will not come near you.

7 If others are so foolish as to attack you, you will pursue them and they will fall by your sword.

8 Five of you will be able to chase a hundred and a hundred of you will be able to chase ten thousand. Your enemies will run before you and they will fall by your sword.

9 I will bless you and your children will be fruitful and multiply. I will keep my covenant that I made with you.

10 You will still be eating from last year's crop when you have to make room for the new one.

11 I will live among you in my holy Sanctuary. I will never leave you.

12 I will go with you and be your God and you will be my people.

13 I am the Lord your God, the One who brought you out of Egypt and freed you from bondage. I broke the power that held you in slavery so you could be free and walk out with your head held high.

14 But if you will not listen to me and follow my instructions, you will suffer the consequences.

15 If you go against my laws, break my covenant and refuse to be corrected,

16 I will allow disasters to come to your land. Diseases and fevers will take away your sight and drain your life forces. You will plant crops, but your enemies will come and eat them.

17 I will let you be defeated and those who dispise you will rule over you. You will be so scared of your enemies that you will run when no one is chasing you.

18 If after that, you still refuse to listen to me, I will punish you seven times worse than previously.

19 I will break your stubborn pride by withholding rain until the sky above you looks like copper and the ground under your feet feels like iron.

20 No matter how hard you work and what you do, your land will not produce crops and your trees will not bear fruit.

21 If you still continue in your stubbornness, I will increase my discipline seven times greater, according to your sins.

22 I will direct wild animals to come into your land. They will be so numerous that you will not be able to destroy them fast enough. They will kill your cattle, attack your children and reduce you in number so that your streets and roads will look empty.

23 If you still refuse to listen to me and you continue to be stubborn,

24 I will increase my discipline seven times again.

25 I will direct armies to attack you, and if you run to your fortified cities for protection, I will bring disease on you and you will be so weak you will be forced to surrender.

26 Your food supply will be so low that ten women will be seen baking one loaf of bread and cutting it up into ten little pieces to feed ten hungry families.

27 If after all of this you still won't listen to me but continue to have a rebellious spirit.

28 I will show my hatred of sin by increasing the discipline sevenfold.

29 You will be so hungry and so insensitive that you will kill and eat your own infant sons and daughters just to survive.

30 I will destroy your mountain retreats where you worship your idols, crush your incense alters, knock down your sun images and heap your dead bodies on top of your crushed idols.

31 I will reduce your cities to ruins and destroy your pagan temples. Until you change, I will refuse to accept any offerings you bring to me.

32 I will destroy your country so completely that even your enemies who come to live in it will be astonished at what happened to you.

33 I will bring the sword down on you and scatter you among the nations. Your farmland will be deserted and your cities will be in ruins.

34 All the time you're away in exile the land will finally enjoy the rest that I had set aside for it every seventh year.

35 By lying desolate, the land will have the rest that it should have had while you were working it.

36 I will make those that survived the war and are being taken into exile so afraid of everything that even the sound of the leaves blown by the wind will scare them and make them run as if someone were chasing them with a sword.

37 Even though no one is chasing them, they will stumble over each other as if being pursued. They will be too weak to stand up to any of their enemies.

38 They will die in exile and the land of their enemies will swallow up their dead.

39 Those who are left back home will waste away because of their own sins and the accumulated consequences of the sins of their fathers.

40 But if they confess their sins and acknowledge that their fathers have sinned and that they were stubborn and refused to listen to me

41 which caused me to discipline them, to destroy their land and to send them into exile, then I will listen. When they are humble and accept their exile as the consequence of their sins,

42 then I will reactivate the agreement I made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and bring them back home and once again bless their land.

43 It will have had its rest and enjoyed its Sabbaths while they were away. They will accept the consequences of their disobedience in breaking my commandments and my laws.

44 Yet despite all of this, I will not abandon them while they're in exile, nor will I abhor them so as to completely destroy them for what they and their fathers have done. I am still the Lord their God.

45 I will remember the agreement I made with their anscestors when I brought them out of the land of Egypt and in the sight of all nations became their God."

46 These then are the instructions, the statutes and laws that the Lord gave Moses on Mount Sinai for the good of His people.

Our Observation

William Miller's 1843 "Time Proved Fifteen Different Ways" - Proof #1, used this chapter as the basis for its calculations:

ONE:

I prove it by the time given by Moses, in the 26th chapter of Leviticus, being seven times that the people of God are to be in bondage to the kingdoms of this world; or in Babylon, literal and mystical; which seven times cannot be understood less than seven times 360 revolutions of the earth in its orbit, making 2520 years. I believe this began according to Jeremiah 15:4, —

"And I will cause them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem,"

and Isa. 7:8,

"For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Resin: and within three score and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people,"

– when Manasseh was carried captive to Babylon, and Israel was no more a nation,– see chronology, 2 Chron. 33:9,

"So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Israel,"

– the 677th year B.C.

Then take 677 out of 2520, leaves A.D. 1843, when the punishment of the people of God will end.

Verses in Leviticus 26 referencing the term "seven times":

  • 18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
  • 21 And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.
  • 24 Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
  • 28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

Here is the chapter outline:

  • Verses 1-13 prounounce blessings on the children of Israel if they obey God.
  • Verses 14-39 prounce curses on the children of Israel if they fail to obey Him.
  • Verses 40-43 tell what God will do "If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers."
  • Versese 44-46 contains the promise, "And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God."

It is interesting how, for whatever reason the SDA Clear Word Bible decides to flip the colors in the following verses:

19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: (KJV)

19 I will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze. (NIV)

19 I will break your stubborn pride by withholding rain until the sky above you looks like copper and the ground under your feet feels like iron. (CWB)
